Human Rights situation in Pakistan is Alarming : US State Department

A report issued from US state department , referring to the Azadi march by former ُُ Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran khan has showed that human rights situation in pakistan is alarming , According to foreigen press annual report of US state Department on human rights has included the scenario since the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan from office in 2022 last year.

The report states that arrests were made during Tehreek-e-Insaaf’s protests, public rallies and Azadi March after the success of the no-confidence motion against Imran Khan and two deaths were also reported.
The report also said that during this period, constitutional restrictions were imposed on broadcasting or publishing material critical of the military and the judiciary, and the media were forced to censor politicians’ speeches and coverage of elections.

The US report further states that journalists in Pakistan continue to face arbitrary arrests, torture, censorship, and enforced disappearances, in addition to severe restrictions on freedom of expression and the media.

The report also mentions the harsh and life-threatening conditions in prisons across Pakistan and expresses concern over the torture of political prisoners.

However, the US report acknowledged that the 2022 elections did not interfere with the right of political parties and candidates to campaign, contest or solicit votes in most areas.
